In their Thursday 28th April edition, the Cornishman published two photos of events down on the farm in their What's On pages. Both photos have already appeared on this blog, but here they are again in glorious technicolour!

Weaving Workshop, May 15th 12-4pm.

This coming Sunday there will be a weaving workshop here at the farm, run as an informal drop-in session from 12 noon till 4pm. Attendance will be free, but donations are always welcome to help us cover the costs of the day, and to make future workshops more likely. So whether you fancy a cup of tea and a chat whilst watching weavers at work, or feel like trying your hand and learning new skills, come on down.

Wildflower Discovery Walk - to be held Thursday 12th May.

The next Wildflower Discovery Walk will begin in the farmyard at 6pm on Thursday 12th May. As with the previous two walks, attendance is free but donations are welcome, and there will be the opportunity to buy fresh organic produce on the farm. Let's hope for good weather and some interesting discoveries - see you there...

Beltane at Bosavern.

On May Eve (Saturday 30th April) Bosavern Community Farm was delighted to host the 23rd annual St Just maypole dance, to celebrate the traditional festival of Beltane. More than 60 people came down to the farm, plus a troupe of folk musicians, with food and drink to share, and a lovely evening was had by all. The festivities took place in Standing Stone Field next to the ancient standing stone itself.

After the music and dancing, a fire was lit in the specially-dug fire-pit, and those daring enough leapt over the flames to bring good luck.

 We are already looking forward to next year's Beltane festivities!

Pigs.

As you may have noticed, three little pigs arrived at the farm on Saturday 16th April, just in time for the EGGstravaganza. The pigs were supplied by a local farmer, 4 miles away, but they do not come from organic stock. They will be raised on organic land, and fed organic feed, so we can refer to them as "organically reared" pigs. In autumn they will be made into sausages and bacon, and sold in one-tenth-of-a-pig portions to family and friends of the community farm (i.e. their meat will not be commercially available).

Despite appearances, they are sisters. The spotted pig is called Penny. At the EGGstravaganza we asked people to write down names for the two black pigs, and a jury of volunteers today chose the suggestions of Sage and Onion for them. As the pigs are for eating, quite possible with sage and onion, their names are a reminder of their destination (the dinner plates of St. Just), and make the connection between living farm animals and their meat as a human food source. We hope they'll be very happy here in their six months of life.
