Winter brassicas.

In early August we cultivated two acres of ground for our winter brassica crops, and planted a variety of cauliflowers, purple sprouting broccoli, cabbages, and kales. We have improved the soil using cow manure and ground limestone, and protected the crop with a rabbit fence and bird scarers (kites that look like hawks), so we hope for a good long productive harvest. Last weekend we weeded the field by tractor (after fitting thinner row-crop wheels) for the first time, then finished the job using a wheel-hoe and Dutch-hoes. Now that it's rained it needs doing again....
